Our kids have about 2 more weeks to return their reading logs for the summer reading program. They can return a log each day after reading for 90 minutes. This summer our children have read more than 58,000 minutes so far!! Amazing! This should help them as they start a new year in school. The winners of the drawing for the Kindle and iPod will be announced Monday, August 24th. The more logs they turn in, the better their chances of winning!
The Hazen Public Library will be holding a special board meeting Monday, July 27, 2015, at noon at D’Andrea’s. The only item on the agenda is to develop a statement/comment on the proposed bus barn to be built within the park just east of the library building. The comment will be presented at the Public Hearing/City Commission meeting Monday evening.
Hi everyone – Come on by at 10:30 am on this rainy day today (6/16) for our third day of the SRP Special Story Days. Today’s theme is Heroes on Four Paws and the craft will be a Super Stretch Dog. If you can’t make it, make sure the kids keep on reading’ so they can get their names entered for the iPod or Kindle at the end of the session in August.
Summer Reading Program 2015 sign up begins Tuesday, May 25th. Once again, children will be given reading sheets to keep track of the minutes they read. When they have met the requirement, Mom/Dad/Guardian/Babysitter, etc., signs the form and the kids return it to the library for a treat or a small toy. Every time they return their sheet, the sheet will then be entered into the two drawings at the completion of the program…they could win a Kindle or an iPod.
Special Story Days will be held on Tuesdays in June: June 2nd – Superhero Roundup; June 9th – Heroes Don’t Always Wear Capes; June 16th – Heroes on Four Paws; and June 23rd – Keep Being a Summer SuperREADER! Story time is 10:30 am. A craft will be done at each storytime.
We hope all kids will join us for Every Hero Has A Story!
The Library has received donations of $100 each from The Coteau Properties Co. and Basin Electric Power Cooperative to be used for the Summer Reading Program. We also received a $500 donation from Great River Energy to be used for adding to our DVD and audio book collection. We are very grateful to these companies for the value they place on their local libraries and the communities in which they operate.

The mission of the Hazen Public Library is to provide and promote
open access to reading and cultural, intellectual and informational
resources that will enrich and enlighten all segments of our community.
Join us Thursday, April 23rd, from 2 pm to 5 pm to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Hazen Public Library. In April of 1965 the Hazen Public Library was founded with Minnie Miller as the Library Director. From the sounds of it, she was a really cool lady. More than 400 people showed up to celebrate the grand opening of the library…that is a lot of people considering the population of Hazen was about 1250 people. We are so fortunate to have a city government that has been very supportive and realizes the importance of a great public library to a healthy community. We will have some guessing games and door prizes and don’t forget to download the following scavenger photo hunt sheet for further chances at winning prizes. Behind Every Great Community is a Great Library! There are prizes for kids and adults and we hope you will all join us for this special event! 2015 SCAVENGER HUNT PHOTOS
